Today is day 15 of my 30-day Paleo Challenge. I am feeling great, and slimming down! My weigh-in today told me I gained about 2.5 lbs. since last week, BUT that was 2% body fat lost and 1.3% muscle gained! Years ago, when I didn’t understand what body composition was, I would have been frustrated and upset at the scale, as every week I’ve been gaining weight (I’ve gained over 3 lbs. since I started this challenge.) But muscle weighs more than fat, so the number on the scale in lbs. doesn’t really mean much. I can see the difference in my photos, too (maybe if I’m brave enough to post them, I will at the end of this! Maybe.)
I’m really liking the new Paleo meals I’ve been concocting, but sometimes I do crave carbs. I’ve just been having Quest Bars to curb those cravings (not really Paleo, but they are gluten and soy free so close enough.) I’m not trying to be perfect, but rather trying to ease into this Paleo thing. I’ve also been cutting back on my fat intake as well as my sugar intake (less fruits) and keeping my protein intake at 150g or more. Whatever I’m doing seems to be working!
I’ve also been making sure I workout almost every day, and have been cutting back on the fit clubs a little (HIIT style body-weight workouts) and been doing more heavy lifting at the gym. I allow myself 1 high carb “cheat day” a week, which happens to be on Wednesdays (it just naturally happened that way.) Today I made some coconut pumpkin chocolate chip protein cookies for my carbs, which was my own spin off from this recipe I found on Pinterest. They came out pretty damn delicious, I must say. I used these gluten, soy, dairy free chocolate chips called Enjoy Life Morsels. They were amazing. Pretty much tasted like the real thing, and I like that 🙂
I made sure to take 2 Thermo-bond’s before I ate those (seriously, that stuff works! I was full after 4 cookies… I’m a bit of a cookie monster.) I also drank like 6 servings of Herbal Tea Concentrate (each serving is a half a teaspoon, and burns 80-100 calories.) Damage control attained.
I have some new delicious recipes I’ve discovered so I plan on posting those at some point. Stay tuned!
